Overview:
Out of all the ships I’ve sailed on, Carnival Freedom is my favorite. It might not be the newest or flashiest, but that’s part of its charm. Unlike some of the other, aging carnival ships, the crew keeps this vessel clean and tidy. It’s not too big and not so small to be missing any major features. It’s cozy, fun, and just feels like home the moment you step onboard.
What really makes Freedom stand out is the value. You get great food (The BlueIguana Cantina’s burritos alone are worth the trip), lively entertainment, and beautiful destinations without breaking the bank. I’ve been on pricier ships, but honestly? I had more fun on Freedom—and spent way less.
For the active types, there’s always something going on: trivia, karaoke, deck parties. For those, like me, who are looking for some r&r, you can’t beat lounging in the Serenity adults-only area with a drink in hand. The vibe is friendly, relaxed, and never serious. The staff seem genuinely happy to be there, and it rubs off on everyone.
I’ve made some great memories on Carnival Freedom—laughing through comedy shows, watching sunsets from my balcony or view cabin, or just hanging out by the pool with a cold drink. It’s the kind of ship that makes it easy to forget the real world for a bit.
If you’re looking for a fun, easygoing cruise without the crazy price tag, Freedom is the one. I can’t wait to be back aboard soon!
Dining:
Carnival Freedom serves up a tasty mix of dining options for every mood. You’ve got classics like the main dining room with surprisingly decent rotating nightly menus and a full buffet for casual bites. Guy’s Burger Joint is a must for juicy burgers and fries — not the stale garbage most cruise lines offer up. For something special, there’s the Steakhouse, but I usually stick to the included venues myself — they are that good! You’ll find pizza, tasty deli sandwiches, and 24-hour soft-serve ice cream. Whether you’re craving comfort food or trying something new, Freedom keeps you well-fed from morning to midnight—without needing to open your wallet at every turn.
Staterooms:
Let’s be honest, the rooms are getting a bit dated. Maybe it is just nostalgia at this point, but the kitschy color overload that is the older Carnival fleet, just makes me feel at home. Whether an inside cabin, or a suite, Freedom offers more than average room and storage. The beds, while not exactly a dream, are decent, and the bathrooms are adequately sized for the big-and-tall man. Stewards keep the rooms tidy and allow you to maintain a stress-free environment away from the crowds if you’re the type to get a bit overwhelmed.
Entertainment:
Carnival boasts some raucous and wild entertainment options as well as an attempt at the more refined. The production shows in the main theater are a condensed attempt at a Vegas-style variety show. They are entertaining and the performers give it a good shot, but this ain’t Broadway. The deck parties can yield a variety of results. Sometimes its a wild party – sometimes a drag. It all depends on what kind of crowd that cruise pulls.
The real star for Carnival and Freedom is the comedy club. They consistently feature the best comics at sea – hands down! Carnival has made the surprisingly based decision to allow their comics freedom to take a dig or two at the company itself. This self-deprecating attitude is a choice that would strike fear into most corporate boardrooms, and is a bold move the comedians, staff, and guests all appreciate.
Health & Wellness:
The spa is an up-sell paradise, with well worn pressure sales techniques quickly fading into overpriced, but generally adequate relaxation. I won’t lie and tell you the spa provides a good value, but it isn’t terrible, and the therapists are often quite good at melting away the stress of embarkation day.
